Seminario IRSJD: Type 1 Diabetes and the Developing Brain

Resumen

From birth until early adulthood, brain growth continues and new neuronal synapses are made and threats to these processes can result in lifelong neurocognitive consequences. Young children with T1D have unpredictable eating patterns and activity levels, making it very difficult for parents to provide the correct insulin doses, resulting in greater glycemic variability and fluctuations between hypo- and hyperglycemia. This talk will describe the impact of hypo- and hyperglycemia in the developing brains of young children with T1D using neurocognitive testing and advance MR imaging modalities of the brain.
