Carlos Peña Salazar

Carlos Peña Salazar has a degree in Medicine from the University of Oviedo (Asturias) and a Doctor with a European Mention and Cum laude Qualification from the University of Vic / Central University of Catalonia. He has a postgraduate degree in mental disorders and behavioral disorders in people with neurodevelopmental disorders by the International University of Catalonia. He first obtained the medical specialty in Psychiatry in Catalonia (Via MIR) and later the specialty in Neurology in Germany. He also holds the German state certificate in electroencephalography (EEG Zertifikat).
Since 2014 he has been a full professor of a master's degree in psychiatric disorders in people with intellectual disabilities at the University of Extremadura and frequently collaborates with other Spanish universities.
His research interests include neuropsychiatry, epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, childhood trauma, and the determinants of suicide.
He is the author of books, book chapters and numerous articles in national and international magazines. He is a regular lecturer at scientific congresses and supervisor of complex clinical cases (Intellectual disability, psychiatric disorders and epilepsy) for different entities at the state level. He is an international consultant to the executive committee of D-A-CH "Inklusive Medizin" (Association of German-speaking medicine for people with intellectual disabilities) and Spanish representative of the NEED (Network of Europeans on emotional development). He is a member of the Consortium for Biomedical Research in the Epidemiology and Public Health Network (CIBERESP).
He works as an adjunct psychiatrist in the Hospital Unit Specialized in Mental Health and Intellectual Disability of the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu (UHEDI Barcelona) and as an adjunct neurologist in the neurology service of the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu.
