Retinoblastoma
Graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1988, he completed training in Pediatrics and later in Pediatric Hemato-oncology at the JP Garrahan Hospital in Buenos Aires from 1989 where he held different positions until 2020 as Coordinator of Precision Medicine. In 2006, he joined the International Outreach Program (today Global Alliance) at St Jude Hospital in Memphis, USA, where he works as Editor-in-Chief of the Oncopedia web platform. In 2013, he joined the Oncology service at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, where he is a member of the retinoblastoma research group.
He obtained his Doctorate degree in 2013 at the University of Buenos Aires and in 2016 he entered the health research career of CONICET (National Council of Science and Technology) as Principal Investigator in Argentina. Since 2020 he has served as scientific director at the Perez Scremini Foundation in Montevideo, Uruguay. His research areas focus on retinoblastoma, holding the position of coordinator of the European Retinoblastoma Group (EURbG) and pediatric lymphomas. He was president of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP) between 2019 and 2020 and is currently president-elect of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP).

Two subtypes of retinoblastoma identified
Researchers from the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu have collaborated in a study, published in Nature Communications, which has identified two subtypes of molecular retinoblastoma with different genomic, clinical and pathological features.
