Dr. M. Montserrat Gil-Girbau holds a degree and a doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona. She has a Master's degree in Healthcare Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Care, as well as a Postgraduate degree in Quality, Healthcare Safety and Legal Aspects from the University of Barcelona. Her academic training is complemented by a solid specialization in qualitative methodology, mixed methods and applied research in health services.

Since 2004, she has been developing her research activity linked to the PRISMA Group (Assessment of Health Technologies and Results in Primary Care and Mental Health), recognized as an SGR group by the Generalitat de Catalunya. She is a principal investigator of the Sant Joan de Déu group within the Red de Investigación en Actividades Preventivas y Promoción de la Salud (redIAPP) (2022-present) and, since 2026, she has co-led the PRISMA Group of the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu together with Dr. Antoni Serrano-Blanco. At the same time, she is responsible for the Patient Experience Area of ​​the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, from where she promotes person-centered care models in different healthcare units.

She has participated in national and European competitive projects, as well as in international collaborative research networks, especially in the evaluation of services, mental health and primary care, with a clear focus on social impact and knowledge transfer.

She also carries out an outstanding teaching activity in qualitative methodology, providing training at the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu and as a guest lecturer at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). She is also a member of the Qualitative Research Commission of the Health and Social Consortium of Catalonia, contributing to the promotion of methodological rigor and the quality of applied research in health services.

Among her main achievements are the sustained leadership of competitive projects, the consolidation of the PRISMA Group as a reference group in health technology assessment and patient experience and the development of innovative models of person-centered care. Her doctoral thesis gave rise to the first international theoretical model of pharmacological non-initiation, and she has promoted numerous participatory action research initiatives in the evaluation of health services and the co-design and evaluation of complex interventions in real contexts of the health system.

She is the author of more than 30 scientific publications in high-impact journals, many of them placed in the first quartile, mainly in the areas of medication adherence, person-centered care, shared decision-making, evaluation of health services and patient experience.
