Introduction

The EU Health Award rewards the efforts and achievements of outstanding initiatives ofinternational, European, national or regional non-governmental bodies which have significantlycontributed to higher levels of vaccination within the EU population. This award is linked to theEuropean Commission's work to build up a database of good practices in various health fields fromNGOs that can serve as models for the future. Access to this inventory should inspire other NGOsand public authorities in EU Member States as well as international organisations to replicate thesegood practices in protecting human health.

 

Objective

The award targets initiatives that help achieving higher level of public health for Europeans throughvaccination, with particular attention to several related aspects:

- Prevention: availability of vaccines and access to sustainable immunization services;

- Awareness and information: promoting vaccination/advocacy;- Countering growing vaccine hesitancy ;

- Engaging with health care professionals to strengthen education/medical curricula/training,advocacy and health care professionals’ communication skills;

- Surveillance ;

- Tackling vaccination from a specific disease perspective (e.g. Human Papilloma virus HPV,seasonal flu, childhood immunisation, life-course vaccination/adult vaccination, synergiesbetween vaccination and use of antibiotic);

- Other initiatives that can promote higher levels of public health in EU through vaccination.

 

Eligible activities

Potential activities – targeting the general public, patients, healthcare workers or internationalorganisations - that NGOs carry out could include the following:- Advocacy ;- Service providing: providing cost effective and safe vaccination;- Awareness-raising ;- Education/training: to general public / national authorities/ health professionals;- Knowledge: such as about social and behavioural aspects and balancing supply and demand.

 

Eligible applicants

The call is open to the participation of legally established non-governmental bodies, non-profitmaking,not dependent from industry, and without commercial and business or other conflictinginterests. Eligible entities must be established in one the following countries: a) EU Member States;b) Iceland, Serbia and Norway; c) Countries which have a bilateral agreement with the EuropeanUnion, in accordance with Article 6 of Regulation No 282/2014 on the establishment of a thirdHealth Programme.Only applications from single applicants are acceptable (with or without partners).

 

Funding

The winner of the competition and the two runners-up will receive:

- 1st prize: 20.000 euro

- 2nd prize: 15.000 euro

- 3rd prize: 10.000 euro
