The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) (European Commission, Horizon Europe) fund international consortia to run doctoral training programmes in any research area.
This call supports three types of Doctoral Networks (you choose the model that fits your training idea):
- Standard Doctoral Networks (DN): the "classic" MSCA model. A consortium recruits PhD candidates and trains them through international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral exposure, but without extra structural requirements beyond the general DN rules.
- Industrial Doctorates (DN-ID): designed to embed PhDs in the non-academic sector. Doctoral candidates typically spend a substantial part of their time outside academia (at least 50%), with joint supervision by academic + non-academic partners, focusing on skills and experience relevant to innovation and industry/public services.
- Joint Doctorates (DN-JD): built around jointly delivered doctoral programmes leading to a joint degree or multiple degrees. This model requires stronger programme integration across partners (e.g., shared selection/training structures), and allows longer fellowships (up to 48 months).
Across all three types, the goal is the same: recruit and train excellent doctoral candidates with a clear plan for research, transferable skills, and career development-supported by a strong international consortium.
Objectives (brief): implement doctoral programmes that train highly skilled doctoral candidates and boost their creativity, innovation capacity and long-term employability.
