ERDERA (European Rare Diseases Research Alliance), funded under the EU Horizon Europe programme, runs the Networking Support Scheme (NSS) to support workshops or conferences that strengthen new or expanding transnational networks in rare diseases, rare cancers, or cohorts of undiagnosed patients suspected of a rare disease/rare cancer. Funding is aimed at knowledge exchange and dissemination of research results, with an emphasis on interactive networking (not lectures/webinars only). Events can be face-to-face or hybrid and should be scheduled between 9 and 21 months after a specific collection date (the selection + administrative process takes ~9 months).

 Objective: Enable scientific knowledge exchange and increase participation of underrepresented European countries in rare disease/rare cancer research networks.

Requisits

Requirements / Eligibility criteria

  • Eligible applicants: rare disease/rare cancer researchers, clinicians, research managers (universities, higher education institutions, public research institutes, clinical/public health sector), and legally established Patient Advocacy Organizations (PAOs).

  • Consortium: transnational network with 3-10 co-applicants (incl. principal applicant) from at least 3 countries; at least one country must be an underrepresented country

  • Principal applicant: legal entity established in an eligible ERDERA country

  • Additional eligible co-applicant locations: eligible ERDERA countries and Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Switzerland (as co-applicant locations).

  • Disease scope: rare diseases (≤5/10,000), rare cancers (<6/100,000/year), and undiagnosed cohorts; rare infectious diseases are excluded.

  • Event location: must take place in an eligible ERDERA country (Annex 1); the local organizer must be part of the consortium.

  • Mandatory inclusion: involvement of applicants from underrepresented countries as (co-)applicants; ECRs and PAOs are encouraged and strengthen impact.

  • Not allowed: hiring an external organization to organize the event; generating profit; research costs or personnel costs for event preparation (technical support at the event is eligible).
