Introduction: The Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU) is a partnership between the European Union and industry associations representing various healthcare sectors. It aims to pioneer a more integrated approach to health research, translating innovation into real benefits for patients and society.
General Description: This call aims to fund pre-competitive Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) that contribute to addressing IHI JU's Specific Objectives. The call contains five topics, each focusing on different aspects of health innovation:
- Boosting innovation for a better understanding of the determinants of health.
- Boosting innovation through better integration of fragmented health R&I efforts.
- Boosting innovation for people-centred integrated healthcare solutions.
- Boosting innovation through exploitation of digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare.
- Boosting innovation for better assessment of the added value of innovative integrated healthcare solutions.
Objectives:
- Address unmet public health needs.
- Foster the development of health innovations for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and disease management.
- Support the integration of innovative solutions into healthcare systems.
Other Relevant Aspects:
- Encourages interdisciplinary collaborations and cross-sectorial partnerships.
- Supports participatory research with active representation of patients or citizens.
- Projects should include a dedicated work package focusing on the implementation of research outcomes into clinical practice.
Project Duration: Varies by topic, typically up to 3 years.
- Topic 1: Up to EUR 25,000,000.
- Topic 2: Up to EUR 100,000,000.
- Topic 3: Up to EUR 30,000,000.
- Topic 4: Up to EUR 24,000,000.
- Topic 5: Up to EUR 12,000,000.

Requirements
- Applicant Consortia: Must ensure that at least 45% of the eligible action costs are provided by contributions from industry members, their constituent or affiliated entities, and contributing partners.
- Legal Entities: Legal entities identified in the call topic text will not be eligible for IHI JU funding (COCIR, EFPIA, EuropaBio, MedTech Europe). However, these entities can provide contributions as IHI JU members or as constituent or affiliated entities.
- High Revenue Entities: Entities with an annual turnover of EUR 500 million or more, or those under the direct or indirect control of such entities, are not eligible for funding.
Evaluation Criteria
- Excellence: Clarity and relevance of the project objectives, robust and ambitious methodology.
- Impact: Credibility of the pathways to achieve the expected results, quality of measures to maximize results and impact.
- Quality and Efficiency of Implementation: Quality and effectiveness of the work plan, capacity of each participant and the consortium as a whole.
