1. Kids Corona Project presents the preliminary results

    A study made by SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital · Instritut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu reveals that 17% of children who have had contact with a sick person have become infected. Children have a similar prevalence of COVID-19 antibodies to adults, but more than 99% have mild symptoms.

    The frequency of genetic variants associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has decreased progressively in the evolutionary human lineage from the Palaeolithic to nowadays, according to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports.

  3. Sant Joan de Déu begins four lines of research for the study of COVID-19

    Researchers from the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute and the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children's Hospital are starting four projects to study COVID19 from a microbiological and clinical perspective with regard to inflammatory and maternal-foetal response. To do so, they need to recruit 500 families with children in which at least one adult has tested positive.

  4. The importance of time in the treatment of Rett Syndrome

    The research team led by Dr Àngels García-Cazorla (IRSJD) has broken new ground in improving the treatment of Rett Syndrome. Researchers at the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) and the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) have found that early GABAergic modulation may offer a promising strategy for affected children.

  5. The EMPOWER project is intended to develop an online platform to improve mental health in the workplace

    The European project EMPOWER was launched in January 2020 with the goal of reducing the impact of mental health problems in the workplace. EMPOWER focusses on the development and implementation of a new, low-cost, online health platform to address mental health and well-being in the workplace.

  6. A research project developed at Sant Joan de Déu has been chosen as the most important of 2019 in Spain

    The researcher Angel Montero Carcaboso, based at the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute, has won the Vanguardia de la Ciencia 2019 Award for the development of a new treatment for children's retinal cancer, retinoblastoma.

  7. First scientific conference on nanotechnology and rare diseases

    The Spanish nanomedicine platform (Nanomed Spain), together with the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute and the IBEC (Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia), organised an event within the framework of the Rare Disease Day at which they presented the latest innovations in the field of nanomedicine for the treatment and diagnosis of these diseases.

  8. The researcher Ángel Montero Carcaboso, nominated for the Vanguardia de la Ciencia Award 2019, for the development of a new retinoblastoma treatment

    At the beginning of 2019 an international team of researchers, with the participation of professionals from the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute and the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children's Hospital, published the first results of a new therapeutic strategy for retinoblastoma or retinal cancer, a disease that accounts for 11% of malignant tumours in infants under one year old.

  9. We believe that the use of computer games by children with cerebral palsy can improve their quality of life

    The goal of the ETCONNECT project, led by Dr Roser Pueyo and her team (Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute · University of Barcelona Institute of Neurosciences - UBNeuro), is to verify the effectiveness of online cognitive training in improving the cognitive functions of children with cerebral palsy, and to see how this affects their quality of life and brain connectivity.
