La doctora Maria Mataró Serrat se graduó en Psicología en 1990 por la Universidad de Barcelona y obtuvo su título de Doctor en Neuropsicología por la Universidad de Barcelona en 1995.
Desde el año 2005 es profesora agregada de la Universidad de Barcelona y desde el 2018 es catedrática de Psicobiología en el departamento de Psicología Clínica y Psicobiología.
Fue profesora visitante en la New York University Langone Medical Center en el 2013 y en la Universidad de Pittsburgh en 2015 y el 2017 como Fulbright visiting Scholar. Ha recibido la distinción ICREA Academia-2019.
Desde el año 2007 es co-coordinadora del servicio externo de la Facultad de Psicología de Diagnóstico y rehabilitación neuropsicológica
Actualmente lidera el grupo de investigación en Neuropsicología del envejecimiento saludable y enfermedad cerebrovascular donde se estudian los mecanismos neurobiológicos de intervenciones neuroprotectoras y no farmacológicas como el ejercicio físico, el mindfulness y el entrenamiento cognitivo.
