Introduction

The Thrasher Research Fund aims to support the development of medical research in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers. The Thrasher Early Career Award focuses on hypothesis-driven research that offers substantial promise for meaningful advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in children, particularly those that can be applied more broadly.

A variety of research topics will be considered, with incidence and severity being the two main characteristics used for assessment when determining the significance of the proposed research topic. Preference is given to applicants who show potential for creating impact within the field of child health.

Budget

Funds of up to $25,000 are available.

Eligibility

Applications are invited from early career medical researchers with a focus on child health, including:

• Physicians who are in a residency/fellowship training programme or who completed that programme no more than one year before the date of submission of the Concept Paper.
• Postdoctoral researchers who received the doctoral level degree no more than three years prior to the date of submission of the Concept Paper.

Each project needs to be under the guidance of a mentor.

The programme is open to applications from institutions based inside and outside the United States. There are no restrictions with regard to citizenship.

Application

There are two application cycles per year:

• Spring 2021; applications should be submitted by the deadline of 16^th March, 2021.
• Autumn 2021; applications should be submitted by the deadline of 14^th September 2021.
