EIT Food4Health - 2nd call for Expressions of Interest

Introduction

The call is open for partners from EIT Food and EIT Health to participate in the 2020 tasks for the following two projects:

-STOP MetSyn: Using indicators to influence consumer behaviour and prevent pre-disease through food and lifestyle-related interventions

-MuscleCancer: Tackling muscle loss in cancer patients through nutrition solutions and lifestyle interventions

Via an Expressions of Interest application, partners can apply to perform one or more of these tasks. For this 2nd call, EIT is accepting Expressions of Interest from both individual organisations and teams, as long as the teams meet the minimum partnership requirements.

Project description and work package definitions

The following is a short description of the two projects that were launched in 2019. A detailed work package description can be found in the Annex. Each work package will involve at least one partner from each KIC. For 2020, a minimum partnership requirement has also been indicated for each task.

A. Using indicators to influence consumer behaviour and prevent pre-disease through food and lifestyle-related interventions

-Objective: To help consumers make better choices for themselves by offering effective personalised food and lifestyle interventions based on simple testing and evaluation of relevant indicators for pre-metabolic syndrome.

-Outcomes:

-Methodology for measuring pre-metabolic syndrome in Europe

-Pre-disease prevention program for measuring pre-metabolic syndrome in the broader European community

-Strategy to engage the European population to adopt a healthier lifestyle by preventing and tackling pre-metabolic syndrome

-Implementation of the pre-disease prevention program for measuring and monitoring health, as a strategy towards a healthy lifestyle in a real setting

-Duration:2020: 11 months (Overall project: 28 months)

-Budget: €630 000 for 2020

B. Tackling muscle loss in cancer patients through nutrition solutions and lifestyle interventions

-Objective: To improve the prognosis and survival rate of cancer patients by addressing the need for knowledge, service and validated nutrition and lifestyle solutions for muscle mass preservation.

-Outcomes:

-Tool to dynamically measure muscle mass

-Tailormade medical nutritional solution

-Tailormade activity/exercise program

-Digital tools/services to enable and empower patients and HCPs

-Duration: 2020: 11 months (Overall project: 28 months)

-Budget: €1 000 000 for 2020

Eligible criteria

The call for Expressions of Interest is only open to the Partners of EIT Health and EIT Food. Applications from teams will only be accepted if they meet the minimum partnership requirements indicated for each task.

EIT Health and EIT Food Linked/Affiliated Partners may only submit applications via their corresponding Core Partner.EIT Food Network and Associate Partners, External Partners and EIT Health Network Partners and Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) Hubs are not eligible to apply.

Budget

One notable exception for the Food4Health projects is that all partners are expected to contribute 30% co-funding to their budget. Partners will also be asked to include KIC Complementary Activities (KCA) in their budget. The EIT Funding/(KCA+co-funding) ratio must be 25/75.

The budget allocated to each partner will depend on the number of partners and their roles in the task. EIT Funding can be used to cover personnel, travel and subsistence, other goods and services, and indirect costs. No budget needs to be provided for the application phase, but please keep in mind the indicative budgets and EIT funding rules when preparing your application.No more than 60% of the total budget of each project will be allocated to the partners of one KIC. Funding will be distributed to the partners via the respective KIC.EIT Health Associate partners and EIT Food RisingFoodStars need to take into consideration that their total accumulated EIT contribution for 2020 cannot exceed €350 000 and €100 000 respectively.

Application Process

The application process will be via a call for Expressions of Interest to perform one or more tasks in the work packages that start in 2020.

Only one application per partner organisation per task will be accepted.

All Expressions of Interest must be submitted using the application form. The application language is English.

Applications must be received by 20 November 2019 at 17:00 CET. Late or incomplete applications will not be eligible for evaluation. An eligibility check will be conducted before the evaluation.
