Description

Proposals are requested for projects focused on defining the health effects of yogurt consumption. Research focused in the following areas are particularly encouraged:

- Mechanism of action

- Biological effects of yogurt live ferments & fermentation products

- Impact of yogurt consumption on gut microbiota

- In adults and/or children

The grant is supported by Danone Institute International (DII) in collaboration with the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF).

Requirements

- The competition is open to research teams from public research organizations or researchers at universities or hospitals.

- Applications can be from individuals, a single team or several teams in collaboration.

- Proposals must be neither previously published nor subject to patent disclosures.

Documentation

Applicant teams must appoint a project Scientific Leader who will be responsible for completing the application. The scientific leader must send the application including all sections below in a PDF format (all sections are mandatory and proposals must be submitted in English):

1. Curriculum Vitae of the lead scientist

2. Title of the application and keywords of the project

3. Project summary (1 page max)

4. A full description of the project (10 pages max), including the following sections: Background and Introduction, Objectives and hypothesis (if appropriate), Research plan (including the methods), Expected results/deliverables, Timeline, Collaboration (if appropriate)

5. A detailed composition of the team(s) (in case of collaboration) involved in the project, with, for each participant: the title, status (director of research, researcher, engineer research, research technician , post-doctoral, doctoral, master 2, trainees), the degree prepared and registration for university students, the percentage of time devoted to participation in the project

6. Detailed budget for the grant application

7. Details of other funding already obtained or in the process of application for the project and the justification of this application with respect to funding already granted

8. A solemn undertaking, signed by the scientific leader, certifying that the funds obtained through the 2017 YINI call for application will be used exclusively to finance the project.

9. Information about the product (yogurt) intended to be used in the study:

- The product must meet the CODEX definition of yogurt: no addition of any other strains than Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus

-  The proposal must include the list of ingredients and the nutritional composition of the product (at least information on the protein, fat, carbohydrate and calcium content)

- The proposal should not mention any commercial brands.
