ERC Advanced Grants are aimed at established Principal Investigators (PIs) who are recognized research leaders with an exceptional track record of significant research achievements. The goal is to support ground-breaking, ambitious, and feasible proposals that push the frontiers of knowledge in any scientific domain (bottom-up approach).

Key features of the call:

• No predefined thematic priorities (fully bottom-up).

• Project duration: up to 5 years.

• Funding modality: lump sum (single payment covering the entire project duration).

Budget:

• Up to €2,500,000 per project (standard maximum).

• Up to €1,000,000 additional funding may be requested for:

  • "Start-up" costs for PIs moving from a non-EU/non-Associated Country.

  • Purchase of major equipment.

  • Access to large facilities or field/experimental costs.

• If the PI is relocating from a non-associated third country, the additional funding may go up to €2,000,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Principal Investigator (PI) eligibility:

• Open to researchers of any nationality and country of residence.

• The PI must commit:

  • At least 30% of their working time to the ERC project.

  • At least 50% of their working time in an EU Member State or Associated Country.

Host Institution eligibility:

• Must be located in an EU Member State or Associated Country (see Annex 3 of the WP 2025).

• Can be public or private (e.g., universities, research organisations, companies).

• Must commit to hosting the PI for the entire project duration.

Admissibility criteria:

• The proposal must be complete, readable, and submitted before the deadline.

• It must align with the objectives and grant type defined in the call.

• Proposals failing to meet these requirements will be considered inadmissible or ineligible.
