Call objectives
The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) is a non-profit international association that was established in 1982. Its mission is to support and promote the advancement of knowledge in intensive care medicine, in particular the promotion of the highest standards of multidisciplinary care of critically ill patients and their families through education, research and professional development.
The ESICM-Fisher&Paykel Healthcare Award provides funding for research projects that focus on the physiology-based management of respiratory failure.
Budget
The available budget is €20,000.
Awards are not intended to run concurrently with other awards greater than €15,000, even those funded by other agencies or sponsors. Funds used to secure ethics approval, insurance or permission to perform animal research as well as funds for the applying investigator's salary will not be taken into account in the €15,000 limit.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are physicians, scientists, nurses or health-allied professionals. Applications from nurses and health-allied professionals must be supported by a research supervisor (MD or PhD). Candidates must be actively engaged in intensive care and emergency medicine or in intensive care research, with appropriate scientific or medical qualifications. Furthermore, the applicant must be an ESICM member or must apply for membership before submitting an application for the award.
Research projects must take place in a European country.
