Call options and objectives

The CHEST Foundation has wide variety of open research grants calls. To be eligible is required to be member of the CHEST Foundation at the time of submission. It is also required to be member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation for the submission of the grant number 1.

  1- CHEST Foundation and American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation Research Grant in Sleep:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation and American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation Research Grant in Sleep Medicine Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address topics that advance sleep medicine and ultimately improve patient outcomes. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered. For the submission it is also required to be member of the AASM.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  2- CHEST Foundation and the Alpha-1 Foundation Research Grant in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation and the Alpha-1 Foundation Research Grant in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address a critical need related to Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1). Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $25.000.

  3- CHEST Foundation and American Thoracic Society Research Grant in COVID-19 and Diversity:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation and American Thoracic Society Research Grant in COVID-19 and Diversity Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address clinical (hospital or outpatient) or community-related aspects of COVID-19 that focus on an underrepresented minority (URM) patient group. Projects must also demonstrate how it will have a positive impact on the lung health of a community.

Underrepresented minority (URM) patient groups include patients from lower-, middle-, and low-income countries as defined by the World Bank or the following North American populations: African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and native Hawaiians), Pacific Islanders, and mainland Puerto Ricans.

Funding available up to $25.000.

  4- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address clinical, population, or community engagement/health services aspects of COPD with relevance to the prevention and/or reduction in morbidity or mortality associated with COPD. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  5- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in COVID-19:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in COVID-19 Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address clinical (hospital or outpatient) or community-related aspects of COVID-19. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $25.000.

  6- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Critical Care:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Critical Care Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address research topics related to respiratory failure. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $25.000.

  7- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Cystic Fibrosis:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Cystic Fibrosis Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and/or treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF). Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  8- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Lung Cancer:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Lung Cancer Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address lung cancer disparities research that leads to improved medical and/or surgical detection, treatment, and/or cure of lung cancer. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $100.000.

  9- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Diseases:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Diseases Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that advance research in nontuberculous mycobacteria disease. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  10- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Pulmonary Fibrosis:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Pulmonary Fibrosis Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that contribute to the effective treatment, management, or cure for pulmonary fibrosis. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  11- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Severe Asthma:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Severe Asthma Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address clinical, population, or community engagement/health services aspects of asthma with relevance to the understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and/or treatment of severe asthma. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  12- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Pulmonary Hypertension:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Pulmonary Hypertension Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that advance the understanding of the pathophysiology or treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $30.000.

  13- CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Women's Lung Health:

Within the framework of the CHEST Foundation Research Grant in Women's Lung Health Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address address important and timely issues surrounding women's lung health, including, but not limited to, diseases such as COPD and lung cancer. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding available up to $10.000.

  14- CHEST Foundation Eli Lilly and Company Distinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine:

Within the framework of the Eli Lilly and Company Distinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine programme, funding is available to complete an investigative project that has significant impact on critically ill patients.

Applications must address research that:

  • Enhances scientific knowledge, advances evidence-based medicine, and/or improves clinical/community practice related to respiratory health patients.
  • Furthers the understanding of the mechanism and management of acute and life-threatening respiratory illness, or
  • Addresses the organisational attributes associated with the optimal delivery of respiratory health services.

Projects must also demonstrate how they will have a positive impact on the lung health of a community.

Funding up to $150.000.

  15- CHEST Foundation John R. Addrizzo, MD, FCCP Research Grant in Sarcoidosis:

Within the framework of the John R. Addrizzo, MD, FCCP Research Grant in Sarcoidosis Request for Proposals, funding is available for research projects that address the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and/or treatment of sarcoidosis. Higher-level translational research project are preferred, and basic (cellular or animal) research projects will not be considered.

Funding up to $20.000.

Requirements

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are licensed physicians who are CHEST members at the time of application. Physicians-in-training (residents or fellows), other health-care professionals, or clinical researchers with relevant experience will also be accepted. Non-profit organisations and institutions are eligible to apply.

Teams are encouraged to apply but must have a representative to serve as the Principal Investigator who will apply as an individual and will receive recognition, if awarded.

Although applicants may be at later career stages, special consideration will be given to young investigators and applicants in early stages of their career.

Grantees can have no more than one active grant from the CHEST Foundation per year.
