Introduction
The Alpha-1 Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 1995 and based in Florida, United States. Its mission is to promote research and the development of new therapies for improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1).
The John W. Walsh Translational Research Award in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency provides funding aimed specifically at translating research findings in the field of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) into medical practice.
All proposals must be hypothesis-testing, or generate new information on topics relevant to the funding opportunity. Projects must provide sufficient preliminary data to justify the Foundation's support.
Budget
A total grant of $225,000 is available over three years to fund one grant.
The grant will be awarded to the principle investigator's institution. If multiple study sites are required, they must be administered as sub-contracts.
The use of grant funds to pay for overhead and/or indirect costs is not permitted.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants must have a clinical or research doctorate (including PhD, MD, DO, DC, ND, DDS, DMD, DVM, ScD, DNS, PharmD or an equivalent doctoral degree). At the time of the award, the applicant must have a full-time appointment at the applicant institution. Candidates who have VA appointments may not consider part of the VA effort toward satisfying the full-time requirement at the applicant institution.
The institution of the applicant may be a profit or non-profit organisation, public or private institution (such as a university, college, hospital, or laboratory), a units of a state or local government, or an eligible agency of the federal government. Both domestic and foreign institutions are eligible.
