Bayer's mission is to provide new treatment options for diseases with high unmet medical need.

Bayer HealthCare offers grants for researchers investigating novel drug targets in the fields of the indications listed below to promote innovative therapeutic ideas from basic research into novel drugs. It provides financial support to test your hypothesis, start or extend your present research activities.

Oncology

Gynecology

Heart & Vascular Diseases

Specialty Lung Diseases

Kidney Diseases

Hemostatic & Acute Organ Disorders.

Target must be a nucleic acid or a protein (e.g. an enzyme, a receptor) whose activity can be modified by a drug

Target should have shown to be effective/ mechanistically involved in the disease by relevant in vitro or in vivo models.

Target is disease-modifying and/or has a proven function in the pathophysiology of a disease.

Types of grants

Support Grants to further advance research on targets that are at a very early stage of discovery; fixed grant approval letter; IP rights remain with the applicant

Focus Grants: for more mature ideas, e.g. to address specific aspects of a target as a first step towards transferring it to the drug discovery process; fixed grant approval letter; IP rights remain with the applicant.

Grant types do not need to be selected by the grant applicant.

Requirements

Researchers from universities, other academic research institutes and start-up companies from all over the world are eligible.

Funding

Support Grants: €5,000-€10,000

Focus Grants: €10,000-€125,000

How to apply

Grant applications can only be submitted via the electronic submission platform. It is only necessary to provide an abstract describing your idea and target, its characteristics and a separate description of its therapeutic potential, and a CV and relevant publications. Please note that only non-confidential information should be provided.
