Researcher Aritz Aranbarri holds a degree in Psychology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, specialized in Clinical Neuropsychology (accredited by the National Council of Psychology) after completing a master's degree in Neuropsychology (2400 hours of hospital rotation) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a master's degree in Research in Psychology from the University of the Basque Country. He obtained his PhD in the area of Environmental Epidemiology and Early Neurodevelopment through a pre-doctoral fellowship from the Basque Government at the University of the Basque Country, receiving the Extraordinary Thesis Award and co-authorship in various high-impact peer-reviewed publications.
Between 2016-2018, he completed his postdoctoral stay at the MIND Institute (Medical Investigation on Neurodevelopmental Disorders) at the University of California, Davis (UCD) in the United States, participating in the ARTP (Autism Research Training Program) postdoctoral program.
His clinical and research activities specialized in autism are complemented by his teaching activities as a guest professor in various postgraduate and master's programs in autism, early intervention, and child neuropsychology at different universities across the country, including the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Ramon Llull University (Blanquerna), the University of Girona, the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, and the University of Deusto. He is co-director and instructor of the course on Early Care in Autism Spectrum Disorder: Detection and Intervention in Early Childhood, in the training area of Sant Joan de Déu, and an official international trainer of the BAYLEY-III Scales, a first-choice test in the evaluation of early neurodevelopment.
Since 2018, he has been a specialist in UnimTEA (Multidisciplinary Unit for Autism Spectrum Disorder) in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Area of Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital, where he carries out his clinical activities, which he combines with research activities in various autism/ASD research projects within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Research group of the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute.
He currently co-leads the autism (ASD) research line, with a particular interest in the study of early detection and diagnosis of autism, post-diagnostic early intervention mediated by the family, the study of biomarkers associated with both detection and treatment response, the detection of autism in at-risk groups with early neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as in studies on the transfer of evidence-based practices to public community networks for autism care.
