Eduard Gratacós Solsona holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1991), a degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (1995) and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona (1996).
Dr. Gratacós is Head of the Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Neonatology Department at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and director of the BCNatal-FMRC Fetal Medicine research groups at the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD), at the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (FCRB-IDIBAPS) and at the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red (CIBERER). The BCNatal-FMRC merger brings together the maternity units of the two largest university hospitals in Barcelona, Hospital Clinic and SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, which is also a world-renowned research institution for fetal medicine and surgery. Since 2008, he has been a full professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Barcelona, where he also teaches Masters in the speciality of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
He previously served as the director of the European Commission Erasmus Mundus PhD programme in Perinatal Medicine with the Universities of Barcelona, Leuven, and Lund (2012-2017). Dr. Gratacós was also Head of the Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Hospital Clinic (2005-2012) and Head of the Fetal Medicine Units at Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona (2001-2005) and at the University Hospital of Leuven, Belgium (2005-2013).
Gratacós research has focused on promoting progress in maternal-fetal medicine. His research focuses on promoting diverse areas of work that incorporate clinical and translational components, which have had a significant impact on clinical practice, the organization of clinical research departments, and international education. His methodology has resulted in significant advancements in the field of fetal and perinatal medicine, thereby enhancing the care and treatment of pregnant women and their offspring.
