Research group
The researcher Laura Baldomà graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona in 1981 and obtained the title of Doctor in Pharmacy from the same University in 1986. In 1989 she obtained the title of Pharmacist Specialist in Clinical Biochemistry.
In 1989 she made a stay at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Konstanz (Germany) where she studied genes and carbohydrate transport systems in enterobacteria.
Since 1988, she has been a full professor at the University of Barcelona, going to the category of cathedratic in 2011, a situation that she maintains today.
She is currently leading the research group on intestinal microbiota aimed at the study of the bacterial factors involved in the communication with the host and in the modulation of mechanisms related to intestinal homeostasis, especially the function of barrier and immune response. This knowledge is essential for the application and design of new therapeutic strategies based on the intestinal microbiota and its products.
In addition, she collaborates in lines of research aimed at identifying targets of synthesis compounds with antitumor activity.
