The IRSJD joins the XarSMART network to promote the transfer of medical technology in Catalonia.

The Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD) participates in XarSMART, a project that aims to promote the generation of medical technologies and new companies in Catalonia in the field of life sciences and health.

XarSMART is a network coordinated by the Innovation and Business Development Area of IDIBELL with the financial support of AGAUR. It consists of 13 institutions, 30 research groups, and 345 researchers.

On behalf of the IRSJD, the "Innovation in Health Technologies" research group participates in research to develop new products, services, and processes that improve the experience of patients and professionals, improve the health of the population, and reduce health care costs. And the "Patient Engagement in Research" group, focused on studying the impact of the active participation of pediatric patients and their families in research projects (clinical trials and innovation initiatives), was established.

XarSMART aims to increase the capacity to transfer high-demand projects to the market with fast development times, in order to achieve an immediate impact on the ecosystem and citizens. Through this initiative, project teams will have easy and rapid access to experts in regulatory affairs, eHealth, data science, or precision medicine, without the need to hire consulting sessions for each need.

To favor the search for funding, XarSMART will have its own automatic search and classification platform for grants from which the research groups will receive personalized information. In addition, the initiative also includes an Industry Council, made up of innovation experts, who will provide advice and support to researchers.

The IRSJD joins other prestigious institutions such as the Consorci Sanitari Integral, Eurecat, IDIAP, IDIBGI, Hospital de Bellvitge, ICO, IISPV, Fundació Universitaria del Bages, IRB Lleida, Hospital de Sant Pau, Universitat de Barcelona, and Althaia, all coordinated by IDIBELL.

XarSMART will offer projects access to experts in regulatory, eHealth, data science and precision medicine.
