Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu joins the european platform EBRAIN

Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD) strengthens its european position in the neuroscience's field and the human brain's study with its incorporation to the EBRAINS platform. A digital research infrastructure, created by the Human Brain Project (HBP) and partly funded by the European Union, which brings together a wide range of data and tools for brain research.

IRSJD, a member of EBRAINS since March 2022, enters into the EBRAINS platform with Bit&Brain Technologies, Institut D'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Quirónsalud & Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. This adherence to the platform will allow the co-design of new state-of-the-art tools and services, together with all EBRAIN partners. With the objective of capacity and help researchers to overcome the main challenges in the study of the brain. Promote the generation of knowledge in date science, the study of the brain and artificial intelligence. EBRAINS makes available to all its members databases, atlases, high-performance simulation tools, robotics, etc.

IRSJD’s incorporation in the EBRAINS platform will allow contributing its experience and singularity in pediatric and fetal medicine, and have the opportunity to establish new partnerships for collaboration and participation in the development of new projects.

"For its part, EBRAINS will give us a visibility space for our services, making it easier for researchers, institutions and companies to access them. In the case of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and the PeCIC, we make available to the EBRAINS platform: a 3-Tesla MRI, a medical image processing laboratory (which allows for quantification, radiomics and the application of artificial license intel algorithms) and a biobank of cloud images, among which the collection of pediatric cerebral vascular images currently stands out". Comments Dr. Josep Munuera, coordinator of the IRSJD Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging research group and head of the Pediatric Computational Medical Imaging Center (PeCIC) of the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital.

IRSJD also contributes to the EBRAINS platform the collection of neurological tissue samples from the Pediatric Biobank of the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the Neurological Tissue Biobank of the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu.
